To sum the last few days up

We have been really busy the last few days.  Of course, I wrote about Saturday, but it hasn't stopped.  Here are a few pictures of our adventures.

We went to the Pelican's game and they had a kid's area.  Luke likes to jump.

This is Paxton and Joey.  Paxton is Ted and Deanna's son they were at the Pelican's game and we just ran into them.  Of course, the boys loved each other.

Cleaning up the mess

This seems to be what I get stuck doing every Monday.  I work those 2 nights shifts and then I have no energy to get work done around here until Monday.  By Monday, it is really bad so that is what I do.  Clean, Clean, Clean and then clean some more.  Of course, today is no different than any other Monday.  Except, Luke puked in Joey's room so I am not only cleaning up the normal stuff but also puke.  I was thankful that it was Monday and I wash sheets on Monday, so he didn't add that much work for me.

I won some Pelican baseball tickets for tonight.  So I will be taking Joey to see the game.  Kev and Luke will stay home.

Hopefully Luke will be feeling better because tomorrow we are suppose to go to a brunch with MOMS Club.  Everyone knows that brunch is great when you can also play with the kids.

I will post pictures later of our boat ride yesterday.  It was Luke's first boat ride and he loved it.

Why do we celebrate de Luna and the 5 Flags?

In 1559, Don Tristan de Luna, a Spanish Conquistador settled in what is now known as Pensacola.  A few months later a hurricane occurred and then de Luna and his people had to leave the area in search of food and other supplies.  This is why Pensacola is known as the first settlement, not the first city St. Augustine gets that honor.  Since the days of Don Tristan de Luna, Pensacola has flow 5 flags, the Spanish, French, British, Confederate, and the United States.
This is your history lesson for the day.  Next year should be a huge celebration, because it will be 450 years.

A wonderful Saturday

This day has been full of firsts.  I worked the last two nights.  I rushed home and slept for a quick 2 hours and got up and went to the mother's day tea.  Now those of you that know me know that I am not a very girly girl and don't know much about tea and the sorts, but thought I wanted to go to this.  It was absolutely wonderful.  I had a wonderful time with my friends from MOMS Club.

This was my door prize.
After the tea I had to rush back to Pensacola to a park for the Fiesta of 5 Flags Kid's Treasure Hunt.  Joey participated in the 3-4 year old group and had a blast.  The kids had to find 10 silver coins and then they would turn them in for a bag of toys.  It was so fun to watch the kids get the coins.  Parents weren't allowed to help get the coins.

Work

Well you all know that when you work night shift that you can get forgotten and if you work part-time and night shift you can really get forgotten. So this was a big shock for me this morning. I had a patient that was not doing real well last night. We have what we call an ACT team that we can call for emergency type events that isn't a code. At any rate, I felt it was important that we call an ACT on this man because he was having severe chest pain and nothing I was doing was relieving it. He has multiple health problems and it could have been a wide range of problems causing his chest pain. Before I left work this morning my boss stopped me and said she was really excited to see me working more shifts this summer. Then she handed me this note from the house supervisor that she had just got. Amy, (that is my boss) I just wanted to let you know that I responded to the ACT called on room 410 on 5/15/08. Your nurse, Andrea did a great job in calling the ACT and was very calm in responding to the situation. She had already done all she could do from her medication stand point and when I arrived to the room, they (her and Ginger) were in the process of doing an EKG on the patient. The EKG machine did not work properly, so they had to call for back up. However, they acted proficient and knowlegable as we all worked together to get this gentleman some help. I do not have thank you cards to send to them, but would appreciate it if you let them know that I mentioned it to you. I've already expressed my gratitude to Ginger. Denise This was also sent to the director of nursing services and she came by this morning to meet me and thank me for my service. Of course, I was almost on the elevator, but I still talked to her for about 30 seconds.

All good things must come to an end

We have had such fun the last few days.  Today not so much.  The boys have been in a constant state of tears.  Luke has fallen more than I can count.  Joey has cried about his back hurting, he has a sunburn.  I did try to prevent the sunburn, but yesterday I could only find SPF 35 and we all have seen how fair skinned he is, he needs at least the 50.  So all day long, but during the 2 hour nap time some has been crying.  At this point, I think I might join them.

I am tired.  The dogs were awake barking at God knows what at midnight last night and then my husband kept me up snoring.  Finally at 3:30 AM I decided that I would go sleep in the living room and this was fine until 5:30 when Joey woke up crying over his sunburnt back.  So when I don't get proper rested I get to the point where I want to cry also.

Right now it is quiet for a few minutes the clean and dry blankets were returned to their appropriate owners.  Thus right now two boys are in heaven and could want nothing more from good old mom.  I think I will daydream of a time when there was no boys and no noise and the only thing I had to worry about was myself and when I think about that time, I just get depressed.  I think how boring that time was, how I couldn't laugh a million times a day about Spiderman or The Wiggles, I didn't get as many hugs, nor did I fix all the problems of the world just by a simple kiss.  I guess I need those two little boys as much as they need me.  I realize that as much I enjoy being a nurse, I enjoy being a mommy more.  I also realize that we must take the good with the bad, so I wouldn't give up days of tears or days of cheers.

Just a fun day

LUKE AND JOEY BEFORE THE EVENING WALK

These last few days have been so much fun.  We, the boys and I, have just been hanging out and having lots of fun together.  Today was no different.  This morning we had a playdate at Osceola Park.  It was nice.  I think that 5 moms and their kids showed up.  All the kids played good together.  Luke just walks around a lot and smiles.  He sort of reminds me of my neighbor, Sean when he was little.  Sean would just follow the group and as soon as he caught up with the group, the group would leave.  Well that sums up Luke, he walks and smiles and then decides he will join the group then when he gets there the group leaves.

You know how you hear about babies needing rocked to go to sleep.  Well that isn't Luke at all. He prefers to take his evening walk.  He doesn't care if you walk a mile or two or just around the block.  He just wants his walk.  He looks for dogs and cats and sucks his thumb and cuddles with his blanket.  Now if Joey doesn't want to go that is fine with Luke.

Now Joey has always enjoyed his home.  He would prefer to stay home, but Luke is always ready to go.  If he thinks we need to go he will be standing at the door screaming, waiting on the rest of us.
